This cabin far exceeded my expectations. It was very cozy and included everything we could have hoped for. The scenery around the natural bridge was beautiful and so idyllic covered in snow. We definitely enjoyed our stay. It was a great getaway.

I brought my wife here as a birthday gift for her. It turned out to be an awesum gift for me too. The weather was great for Jan. and we built a fire at the overhand and spent the evening with the comfort of a warm campfire and cowboy coffee. Be assured that we will be back for many more special occasions. It’s great.

As my husband said, He brought me here for my birthday and it was one of the best surprises I ever had. This place is magic. So many thing to appreciate (the cabin, the design, decoration, camp fire outside, every thing clean, cozy, prepared with so much love!..). The natural beauty surrounding the cabin is just surreal. I barely went to sleep. The excitement of being here was great. Now we are leaving I almost feel depressed, I don’t want to go back to reality but also a feeling of joy and hope we will come back soon!
I live in Stanford, KY but I’m originally from Sad Paulo, Brazil and this is one of the most beautiful place I visited, love U all, Thanks for everything

What a relaxing weekend we had! Your cabin is lovely, we can’t wait to come back with friends. My husband loved his fire up at his “man cave”. I enjoyed the luxury of having to make no decisions harder than beer or bourbon by the fire tonight. We had a quick shower and the sound of the rain in the cabin was awesome. Thank you for letting us enjoy your cabin and for letting us bring the pups Katie and Baron. They gave it a big 4 paws up!

My husband and I had a wonderful vacation staying in your beautiful log cabin. A truly relaxing experience. We will be looking forward to building our log cabin in central KY when we retire in a few years. Thank you for everything.

John. Once again a truly wonderful weekend. We stayed at the fire 80% of the time. The rain had no effect at all. The new mattress slept great. We have made this an annual event for the last few years and for many more years to come. I know people enjoy the cabin only half as much as you and Carey did. Thanks for everything. We the brothers really appreciate it.

John, we had a great time at your cabin. Very peaceful and secluded. Just what we were hoping for. It is beautiful inside and out, close to everything that we wanted to see too. Thank you for letting us stay!!

Thank you very much for letting us stay in your home. This was my first time visiting Kentucky. I couldn’t have asked for a better time! The cabin is beautiful inside and out! I thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful pieces of art. Thank you again.

This was our first time to Kentucky and or first time staying in some ones home. My husband found your cabin on line and knew it would be a dream come true for him…. So here we are with our 2 girls and pups and I found it is really a dream come true for all of us. The view coming down the drive and walking in the front door was so welcoming! We were immediately relaxed and the girls ran straight up to their “Jacuzzi suite”. The art work is unique and fun and it started many conversations!
Your suggestions for must do hiking trails were perfect, we were even able to do a few more difficult ones after testing the girls (ages 9 and 5) out on the easy ones! In Michigan it was rainy and in the 40’s so coming here and enjoying the outdoors after a long winter was just what we all needed! Canoeing, horseback riding and then relaxing by the fire at night simply renewed us all! I cannot thank you enough for letting us come into your home and be able to enjoy the sights created with Gods hand!
Thank You,

I took a million pictures of the cabin so I can remember the wonderful time we had. Hiking was great, the waterfall was my favorite. My other favorites were sky Bridge and Natural Bridge were cool too except the Sky Lift on the way down. I made bow and arrows out of rock and string. Faith sweet age 9
P S The horse riding was great.

We had a great time while we were here. We drove through the terrible rainstorm to get here and were glad to have a “home” to relax in when we arrived. We walked all the trails suggested on the map at the cabin. Gray’s Arch, Rock Bridge, Sky Bridge, Princess Arch, Chimney Top, Natural Bridge trail and sky lift.
The cabin is about 2 hours from Cincinnati, OH. We visited the Creation Museum and Newport Aquarium, both just minutes from Cincinnati. There is also a zoo there but it was too cold, wet, and rainy the day we went, to visit the zoo. We drome through another big rainstorm to get there, (lot’s of flooding above Lexington).
Our dog hunter (yellow lab) even had a great time here. He was grateful for a cool harwood floor to lay on after a long hot hike. Our son Daniel (16 yrs) watch most of your movies and even had his x-box hooked up. When we hiked places the do couldn’t go Daniel stayed “home” while Tom and I hiked.
We had a great time during our week here and we hope to return again. There are so many trails still to hike. We will definitely stay in this cabin again.
Thank you so much for providing a “home away from home”. We really felt comfortable here.

It’s hard to believe it has been 1 ½ years since our last visit. A lot of changes in our lives during the last 2 years have resulted in this hiatus – but things are settling down and we are excited about making up for lost time in the Gorge! Our return to your cabin and this special place did not disappoint – it’s everything and more than we had remembered. We really lucked out weather-wise. Not long after our arrival Saturday afternoon and a short trip to Creation Falls/Rock Bridge, the storms came..and..came..and..came, all night and all morning on Sunday. Watching the weather channel Sunday AM had us thinking we were done for. It truly looked hopeless. At one point I said aloud “We should just go back home.” Thankfully we didn’t because the rain cleared out around 11:00 AM and it hasn’t rained a drop since. So, we took off for an old favorite – the Rough Trail. (Section between Chimney Top Rd and Hwy 715). Our dog Lucy (almost 9 years old now) has slowed down significantly his past year so we were not sure how she’d handle this type of hiking. Perhaps the reason she’s slowed down this past years is strictly from boredom of her very urban Cincinnati – Purgatory life. So dull, so monotonous, so blah. Something amazing happened the instant her paws hit that trail. This old, arthritic 9 year old dog reverted back to her hardy, active younger self. She enjoyed every step through all 5 plus miles immensely and we got such pleasure from experiencing it with her. We were all reveling in our glory in such a happy return to such a wonderful place. What a perfect and memorable afternoon!
In addition visiting some old favorites, we did some new things on this visit. One thing we had never done before for reasons we don’t know was build a fire in the fire pit at the rock shelter. Saturday PM night after dinner and just before the storms we enjoyed a small fire, toasted marshmallows, and a couple of cold beers. I’m so glad we finally discovered the fun of fire!
Today we took Lucy out on the Sheltowee Trace (from the suspension bridge out about 2 ½ miles and then back). Lucy got to swim in the Red River on her way back which was like the icing on the cake. Then after lunch while Lucy took a long, well-deserved nap, Ben and I did Natural Bridge and explored a new trail for us – Battleship Rock.
Today has also been a very wild day. We saw the following: 2 Peleated woodpeckers, 2 turtles, 1 cottontail rabbit, 1 snake, 2 deer. The deer and snake were both on the Sheltowee Trace. One of the Peleated woodpeckers was in your own backyard! Oh, that reminds me! We saw a hummingbird come to your front porch last night but I don’t know where the food/feeders are. I’ll try to remember to e-mail you as soon as I get home.
Thanks for such a special “home-coming”. It’s like to reserve another long weekend in the fall and plan to do that soon.
Enjoyed!

This is such a lovely place! Not only is the cabin comfey and cozy, but the artwork & unique decorations really make this a place to stay like no other.
We came down on Friday, so, unfortunately we were here shorter than desired but we had an amazing time. I came with a friends family that I like to consider myself very close too because their son is in boy scouts while Jody, their son, and the rest of the scouts worked on getting their merit badge at vera-ferdad, we went climbing on the rocks! It was amazing! If your looking for an adrenaline rush I highly reconend it. I’m sure there are many other area attractions near this nicely kept area I look forward to taking another visit here someday

We came for a week with two other couples and we were all sad to leave, having had such a fabulous time, hiking, grilling, sitting by the fire under the rock shelf, playing games, watching movies, making music, and “interpreting” the cabin’s art. Thanks so much for making this a week to remember for us! We hope to be back next spring….

This place has blown me away again! We were here in the winter and it was beautiful then but with it being summer this time just makes it so much better. Seeing all the trees and humming birds just makes it that much better.
This is one of the best places. What makes this so special is that we are on our honeymoon and today is my birthday so what better way to spend a vacation. We are talking about coming in the fall. The up grades you did are amazing. I know it wasn’t much but the sink in the bathroom I Love!
Thank you so much! Once again I can’t wait to come back.

Thank you, we enjoyed our time here. We did all the hikes that were highlighted and more. We were unable to use the fire pit due to the heat. The humming birds are a joy to watch. The pizza at Miguels was great.
Very, very good. Thanks again.

Our second trip to your cabin & we enjoyed it just as much as last year! Loved sitting on the porch watching the humming birds.
Did the sky lift and some easy trails, too hot for the fir ring this time.

As a family this was our best trip to your cabin! We had a wonderful time. You have SUCH a beautiful place! We were so blessed to be able to stay at your beautiful cabin with wonderful scenery (we especially loved your fire pit!) and nearby fun excursions to experience. The porch was wonderful too! We ate most of our meals on the porch & were grateful for the ceiling fans. Although we only experienced one rainy day we were able to enjoy hiking at the natural bridge. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed by your cabin & property. We look forward to coming back in the future.

We had a wonderful time. Lots of things to do. Cabin was very well equipped. We went to many places mentioned in journals and all of them were worth the trip; Nada Tunnel, Natural Bridge, Miguels Pizza, Balance Rock (what a hike).
Thanks again for a memorable vacation.

This was our first time here. Your home is awesome! Thank you for sharing it with us. Just what we all needed time away from people places and things. Everything was beautiful. Went on many hikes mentioned; Chimney Rock by far my favorite. My son and his friend ran all the trails while my husband and I took it slow and just enjoyed it. We enjoyed your porch the most of all. The humming birds have become a new hobby I am going to explore when I get back. It defiantly is a home away from home.
Peace and quiet! Thank You.

Hey John,
Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time in your cabin. We loved the unique character the art gave it contrasted with the traditional cabin design. Two and a half days wasn’t nearly long enough to explore the area. We hope to be back next year.

We’ve been coming to this Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge area since we were at Georgetown College in the 60’s. We live in Michigan and return frequently, your cabin is by far the nicest place we’ve ever stayed. We love the quiet and dark nights, a novelty for city folk.
Your cabin is lively, thanks for making it available.

We checked in, unloaded and processed down the road toward Rt 11 to go to Natural Bridge Park about ½ way down the hill we were stopped by a vol. Fireman. He pointed down the road to a huge white cloud of smoke and said we would need to turn around. The time was about 2:30 PM. He told us they were trying to get a forest fire under control & gave us detour directions. We heeded and found our way to Natural Bridge Park and went on a nice but challenging hike to Natural Bridge. We decided since it was closer to try Rt 11 back to the cabin. It was now about 6:30 PM and the road to the cabin was open while the fire truck was still dowsing out the fire remnants. The entire area to the left as we drive towards the cabin was burnt. The F. D. did return later & continue to work. Monday morning as we awoke I took our dog on a walk down the hill. The fire and smoke was completely gone; GOOD JOB FIRE DEPT.!!!
We really enjoyed the cabin along with the fire pit, especially our 16 year old sone and his friends.
The cabin is very nice and all the nick-nacks have created a homey welcoming effect. The closeness to the parks make it a great place to stay and come back to.
We definitely plan to visit again and want to stay longer next time.
Thanks so much!

I really enjoyed staying in your beautiful cabin. The decorations on the walls were very interesting to look at. We had a fun time ending around the fire pit by gorilla rock. There seemed to be a problem with the TV. It kept shutting itself off at random times. Other than that, everything was perfect. I hope we can come stay again sometime soon.

Had our eye on Big Rock cabin for a while but our schedules never lined up with availability – so popular. This was a fabulous way to spend the weekend with out of town family. Catching up, long walks, Alfred Hitchcock, & reading filled our time. Beast and man enjoyed themselves immensely. We will definitely be back.

Once again we had a wonderful time here at the cabin. The four inches of snow was great and made the surrounding area picture beautiful. Coming here is always the highlight of our year. This is truly great place! Beautiful. We used the fire pit every night. It was awesome! We had to get more marshmallows, went to sleep early and got up late. Maps were great, we could start out right the next morning we came. It was a great spring day. Our girls are 18-14-5 and all enjoyed our time. We will be back. Everytime we come we love the area more and more. This cabin is great!

John, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cabin with us! Our kids loved having their own queen beds, sitting at the camp fire by gorilla rock, hiking up to Natural Bridge and taking the sky lift down, and getting pizza from Miguel’s! We enjoyed the quiet of the wood., the beautiful rocks, the whipper wills, and the front porch. We also saw the fort at Boonesboro, which we loved, and stopped in Winchester for a case of Ale 8, our new favorite beverage. We had some rain but plenty of sun too!
We’d love to come back and see more of your beautiful state!
Thanks Again.

This cabin was great! We loved it. My brother and dad loved it also. This cabin is beautiful. We had fun running up the driveway and hiking to the Natural Bridge. The pizza from Miguels was awesome and crowded. We loved the quietness of the woods, the rocks and sitting outside on the front porch. We would love to come back again. Thanks for letting us stay in the cabin!!
PS: Thanks for the info and the maps, very helpful.

I don’t know how another whole year passed after our last visit – just seems to be getting harder and harder to get away. But I must say it makes our time at Big Rock all the more precious. As always, we felt so much at home. And as always we are impressed with the changes/upgrades from our last visit.
Our dog, Lucy, is still hanging in there! She accompanied us on the majority of our hikes this time which included the Rock Bridge/Creation Falls loop, the last 2 sections of the Rough Trail (out and back) from the parking lot on Chimney Top Road, and the first 2.5 miles and back on the swift camp creek trail (from that same parking area for the Rough Trail). It was our first time on that section of Swift Camp Creek, it was challenging but filled with many beautiful and memorable features. A bonus on that unseasonably warm day was the access to the creek with some nice, wide beaches and lovely rock formations. After some intense hiking it felt great to cool our feet in the water. Lucy cooled her whole body in the water.
Another new trail for us (sans Lucky) was the Rock Garden Trail in Natural Bridge State Park. It was also challenging but so very rewarding.
The hummingbirds are already very active. Looks like the males are engaging in some dynamic aerial combat. You would think two feeders would be enough! I also saw a lovely pair of goldfinches on the seed feeder one morning.
Oh, and Ben loves your new grill! It was a bit warm to take advantage of the fire place and fire pit which is one of the many reasons we must make a point to return in the fall or winter.
Thank you so much for making Big Rock available to us. We love everything about it. It has become a special part of our lives and cannot imagine what we would do without it.
Happy Trails; Jill, Ben & Lucy; Cincinnati, OH

We had an awesome time at the cabin. Kids loved the table & chairs under all the rocks, they enjoyed that there was movies and games for them to play. Keeping teen girls occupied without computers is hard job but think we made some more great family memories trying to get in as many as we can.

We’re enjoying our 2nd visit to Big Rock Log Cabin. Its great to have a forest experience only an hours drive from Lexington.
The cabin is so cozy especially unique in the decorations and has everything one needs as a cabin including the marshmallow forks for the camp fire up at Gorilla Rock.
After a day of waling trails we especially enjoyed kicking back on the porch watching the hummers buzzing around the feeders.
Thanks John, we’re looking forward to a fall visit.

The cabin was more than can be expected. A piece of heaven caught on the side of a mountain in KY. Spent many days in Frenchburg so my wife and family could spend time in the place they grew up. Spent time with the relatives that are still there.
Hike to Natural Bridge, rode the sky lift several times and spent numerous hours in the creek. Smores by the campfire every night. Uncle Larry met up with Sasquatch face to face and he got in a fight with him. After a trip to St. Joseph ER and 8 stitches on this nose he was ready to go. We found out sasquach like pizza and ale 8. We donated a meat tenderizer hammer and couple of kids puzzles and book.

We had a wonderful time at our stay at Big Rock. Everyday we did something in the area, hiking the Natural Bridge trail which was so awesome, visited the pool at the lodge, and also fished at Mill Creek. Your cabin proved to be more than we expected and then some. W truly made some treasured memories to take home with us which is indeed special as Ryan starts his next venture at college life this fall. We truly hope to visit again soon.
Thaks again for sharing your cabin with us. Oh, and the dog was in heaven too.

We truly enjoyed staying at Big Rock for our Honeymoon get-a-way. Loved the peace and quiet and sincerely felt close to God and US.
Can't wait to come back and bring the kids! The cabin has something to offer people of all ages. Loved the extra touches provided. The fire pit is terrific and we are trying to find a way to make the rock backdrop into a tapestry for our new home! The overhang allows for enjoyment even in the rain. Great to be close to Natural Bridge area too.

I loved your beautiful cabin. I felt very relaxed by the fire and in the Jacuzzi. The reptile zoo was cool. My brother loved all the snakes he saw. It took tons of pictures of the cabin, the fire pit, and my favorite rock the "Gorilla". It was very fun to hang out with my family and feel right at home. My mom and I cooked for everyone. We are very pleased with how nice and beautiful the cabin is.
This vacation is actually my favorite out of them all. I hope to come back here soon! Thank you for letting us all stay here!

I love this place a lot! Usually, I dislike areas with no internet or no good phone signal but I did not mind this. The house was built in good location and the fire pit with a trail leading to it was amazing. I also liked the overhang. I wish we could've stayed longer. I also wish I had paid more attention to grammar when writing this! *laughs*

Wonderful cabin - peacefully quiet mornings, moonless nights by the fire pit, calming sounds of rain on the roof. It is so easy to feel connected to nature here! Enjoyed the 60 degree mornings here - now have to head back to southeast Texas and our 106 degree heat index for mid-August

Here for our 35th wedding anniversary. Relaxing, peaceful & quiet. We're from Owensboro, KY. Great city - home of the international barbecue festival (Barbecue capital of the world). Come visit us in May and enjoy the festival. New river front opened in 2012.
This is a very beautiful cabin. Just what we want when getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. Did the sky lift and natural bridge. Not able to enjoy any hiking which sounds like it's the main thing here. God has blessed us with time away and what a beautiful place to do that. Thanks for the use of such a beautiful cabin.

What a lovely, lovely place. I've always loved KY so as delighted when my husband neede to be in Louisville for a conference as a commissioner for the Mississippi River Commission. We live along the Mississippi near Pescott, Wisconsin across from Mn south of St Paul. We went to the Kentucky horse park for a great day. We drove through the circle route, 715 to 77 and back stopping at the lodge area. A beautiful drive, highly recommended. We're too old for the rock climbing! The area we went through was the red River Geological Area.
Big Rock is great. Very comfy. We love all the art work - we're especially fond of the S.C. art.
Thank You for sharing - we loved it

Very comfy. We love all the art work - we're especially fond of the S.C. art.
